This poem asks the question, "what defines culture, race, or any group of people''. As society seeks to define identity for race, culture and gender: communication barriers are built. How do we refer to Orients when the term is deemed offensive? "Asian" is a broad term that refers to all people who live on the continent of Asia. Bengalis (citizens from Bangladesh) do not share cultural norms with, nor do they look like, the majority of the inhabitants of Asia. Actually they, more similarly, share cultural norms and appearance with people from India. In addition to Bangladesh, there is the Philippines. Many Filipinos share similar bone structure and facial features as the majority of Asians. However, their culture is quite different, due to the political history of Spanish ruling.
